YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK–Yosemite National Park officials have announced that Tioga Road (continuation of Highway 120 through the park) will temporarily close today (September 18, 2024) at noon due to a forecast of snow. They will evaluate the road tomorrow morning.

The National Weather Service Hanford office has issued a Winter Weather Advisory in effect above 9,000 feet for a portion of the Sierra Nevada from 2 p.m. this afternoon until 8 p.m. Thursday evening.

WHAT

Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches.

WHERE

Elevations above 9,000 feet. Includes Yosemite National Park, outside of the valley, Upper San Joaquin River, Kings Canyon National Park, and Sequoia National Park.

WHEN

From 2 PM Wednesday to 8 p.m. Thursday.

IMPACTS

Travel could be very difficult due to snow covered roads.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

Stronger showers and thunderstorms could briefly lower snow levels to around 8,000 to 8,500 feet at times.
