INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana—The Alexander has completed a multimillion-dollar renovation that updated all 209 guestrooms and suites, refreshed all meeting and event spaces, and expanded the hotel’s art program. The downtown Indianapolis property also joins Marriott Bonvoy’s Autograph Collection, a portfolio of over 340 independent hotels.

The Alexander originally opened in 2013. Following an extensive renovation, the property introduces redesigned accommodations, a reimagined outdoor plaza programmed for public use, and an art collection curated in partnership with the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields.

“The Alexander has always been a place where art, culture, and hospitality intersect,” said Matthew Smith, general manager of The Alexander. “This transformation allows us to build on that legacy in exciting new ways.  From the remarkable art collection to the thoughtfully renovated guest spaces to the curated culinary experience at Plat 99, every detail reflects a sense of discovery and connection that makes The Alexander exactly like nothing else.”

Immersive Art Experience

Curated in partnership with the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields, the hotel includes an extensive art program. More than 60 works of art can be seen throughout public spaces and guestrooms, including 14 site-specific commissions by local, national, and international artists. The hotel’s guest parking lot is also part of the collection, with graffiti murals by British street artist Nick Walker on the concrete walls.

Among the installations are the 99 hand-molded acrylic lamps by Cuban-born artist and MacArthur fellow Jorge Pardo. The hotel is also home to Standing Wave, an iridescent sculpture by Alyson Shotz, as well as a large-scale installation by Paul Villinski composed of vinyl records reshaped into a flock of birds. Another installation includes Sonya Clark’s sculptural portrait of Indianapolis entrepreneur and activist Madam C.J. Walker, created from thousands of combs in tribute to her legacy.

Design

New furniture and arranged seating create spaces designed to encourage connection and gathering. Guests can gather indoors or enjoy views of downtown Indianapolis from the terrace while mixologists craft beverages using fresh, local ingredients.

Meetings & Events

Designed to host gatherings, The Alexander offers 16,500 square feet of flexible indoor meeting and event space across 17 venues, as well as an outdoor plaza. Event spaces include natural light, ergonomic furnishings, and audiovisual technology, along with Nourishment Hubs.

The Alexander is situated directly on the Indianapolis Cultural Trail in the CityWay district, steps from Fountain Square and within walking distance of Gainbridge Fieldhouse, Lucas Oil Stadium, and the Indiana Convention Center.
