Alaska travel reaches an exciting milestone with the official opening of the Dale R. and Carol Ann Lindsey Alaska Railroad Terminal in Seward, Alaska. Developed through a dynamic partnership involving the Alaska Railroad Corporation, Turnagain Marine Construction, and local stakeholders, this state-of-the-art facility represents nearly a decade of planning and dedication. Replacing aging infrastructure from the mid-1960s, the brand-new development establishes Seward as a premier turnaround port, promising to elevate the guest experience while unlocking long-term economic opportunities for communities throughout Southcentral and Interior Alaska.
As the largest cruise terminal in the state, the facility spans an impressive 68,500 total square feet, including 41,500 square feet of comfortable, enclosed passenger space and 27,000 square feet dedicated to efficient luggage handling. A modern floating double-berth pier easily accommodates today’s largest vessels, with Royal Caribbean International’s Ovation of the Seas proudly homeporting here for the 2026 season. Seamless logistics are a standout feature, as the terminal is located directly adjacent to the Alaska Railroad station, allowing travelers to effortlessly continue their scenic journeys inland toward Anchorage and Fairbanks.
Environmental care and community integration are central to this innovative design. Equipped with advanced shore power infrastructure funded by a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Clean Ports Grant, docked ships can plug into the local grid to reduce emissions and noise. Remarkably, excess energy captured during the winter will be stored in battery systems, providing a reliable backup power source for the Seward community during harsh weather. Beyond cruise operations, the expansive terminal is built for year-round utilization, serving as a vibrant local venue for recreational sports, concerts, and cultural festivals during the off-season.
