This road trip in a 1957 Chevy is jam-packed with then and now photos from backroads America! You may have never before seen a video this loaded with the ghosts of the past, and also with amazing Americana from the late 1800s through the 1950s. On top of that, I’m driving 1500 miles in a loaner ’57 Chevy with a 530 horsepower, 396ci small-block and a TKX five speed. Stay tuned to the end where I reveal a junkyard that must have been abandoned in the early ‘50s!

This is one of my favorites. I sure hope you’ll share it if you dig it.—D/F

  1. I watch your videos a lot as “background noise” while I work and it was kind of surprising for you to start talking about towns that im actually doing substation projects in! I live/work in Tulsa, but the area I cover is Texas North, or what was once West Texas Utilities before it “merged” with CSW, and then AEP.

  2. Live just outside Weatherford. Thanks for the shout out. Live in Springtown and if you want to visit an auto parts store that has stood against time come visit us. Nothing has changed since they opened in the 40's. The smell you will always remember

  3. The irony to me as an englishman is that America is preserving /restoring their old towns and small city's far better than we english are doing with our own small towns from the 1900's.sure we have awesome buildings, castles etc from earlier centuries but my local town has changed beyond recognition to when i was a kid 60yrs ago.the old buildings have been either knocked down or replaced by nondescript ones much like many towns in the uk now.Its nice the USA are preserving their history of the last century for future generations unlike the uk.well done freiburger for documenting it on film and raising awareness.

  4. It's so cool to see all that old stuff and that a lot of it is actually cared for still today. All this restored stuff really makes it pop like in the oldern days. 😎
Btw: thanks to Diesel Creek and Scrappy Industries I also notice some old heavy equipment manufacturers like Allison-Chalmers. ✌️

  5. I didn’t watch this one right away… Thought it was too long, like vice grip can be. I was wrong. It was captivating .Especially with so much of it being here in Texas and down I 10 I just love going west from here. You’re right though about missing so much. But that’s OK, go again, we’ll watch.
I’m right there with you about tinted windows. I like to see everything well. Especially at night. And only mobility blobs look normal with them. Same with big wheels and rubber band tires. I’m no slave of fashion.

  6. I really love the direction David takes his channel. The cars, the talks, the nostalgia, the road trips along with a little bit of wrenching. I hope he continues his channel like this I've said it once and I'll say it again David's channel is a nice refreshing break from all the other YouTube "will it run" videos. Thanks David for what you do to this channel!

  7. 1:25:00 Actually pretty cool idea to just borrow hot rods and tour around America, I'm sure David has the connections to make that a recurring series where various buddies, acquaintances, and maybe even the occasional fan loan him a car and he cruises the local area documenting old buildings and main streets and whatnot. They don't all need to be week-long escapades for thousands of miles, but maybe like state-wide and could shoot for like 20-45 minute episodes depending on the area and how much note-worthy history there really is left pertaining to the pre/post war era David seems to be interested in. A neat thought

  8. Being a flooring guy that lil glimpse of the old terrazzo made me real happy, and my 56 fairlane has various fuses scattered across the floor just for that very case LOL!

  9. I agree with you about the tint, years ago I had a car with the darkest legal tint I could get and it was horrible to see when backing up at night. Personally, factory tint is the way to go.
