President Donald Trump bought a piece of Kura Sushi last quarter.
Trump purchased $1 million to $5 million worth of the sushi chain’s stock on Feb. 2, according to his latest financial disclosures.
Shares in Kura Sushi USA jumped more than 6% Monday on the news.
According to a statement from a Trump Organization spokesperson published by Bloomberg, Trump’s assets are managed by third-party financial institutions and he is not involved in their investment decisions.
Kura was among thousands of trades conducted on Trump’s behalf in the quarter. Others included stakes in tech giants Amazon and Nvidia as well as some restaurant companies, like Chipotle and DoorDash.
Kura is known for sushi served via conveyor belt and its bikkura pon prize program, which gives customers a toy for every 15 plates they order. The brand was founded in Japan and branched into the U.S. with Kura USA, which trades separately on the Nasdaq.
The 88-unit chain reported in April that it was off to a better-than-expected start in 2026, with same-store sales up 8.6% on 4.3% higher traffic in the quarter ended Feb. 28. Executives credited the toy program, which featured characters from Nintendo’s Kirby game and Hello Kitty in the quarter. It also had an easier comparison to last year.
The results prompted Kura to raise its outlook for the year. It’s now expecting positive same-store sales versus flat to positive before.
Trump’s trade on Feb. 2 was in the back half of the quarter, two business days after Kura unveiled its Hello Kitty promotion, and about a week after the chain said it was adding Smoothie King CMO Claudia Schaefer to its board.
