Lake Nakuru National Park has always been on my bucket list and finally I’m excited to share with you our 3 days safari experience in this National Park.
As you all know Lake Nakuru National Park is mostly famous for birds and Flamingos. However, in this video I’m trying to show that Nakuru can offer so much more than birds. It is home to Leopards, Lions, Buffalos and Rhinos (4 out of BIG 5). If you really observe, I’m sure you can spot one.
At Lake Nakuru, Flamingos are the most popular attraction. They say that millions of Flamingos flock here annually and at times it turns the entire Lake Nakuru pink.
Most people travel to this National Park yearly just to experience this sighting. Lake Nakuru is a perfect sanctuary for birds because of its high alkalinity. This keeps the water PH levels balanced and in return supports small organic life such as insect larvae and algae, which birds love to eat. That’s why so many birds flock to this shallow lake and make it their resting spot.
During this trip, we were incredibly fortunate to come across lion cubs, leopards, and a lion resting on a tree branch. These were the highlights of the journey. Formerly living in Lanet we used to go up to Baboon Cliff and have a picnic watching millions of flamingos on the school holidays about 45 years ago. No lion or rhino, rumors of chui and no airstrip back then, we'd all get new sheep slippers at the tannery on the way in. Great memories, thanks!
