You missed all the important history of Chattahoochee. It was first a settlement known for Indian wars. Then a armory for the Confederates. The hospital did start out as training headquarters for Confederate troops. Then state hospital for the criminally mentally insane (prison). Parts of it still serve that purpose. A movie was made about it staring Dennis Hopper. They were renting the prisoners out as laborers to local farmers. Just south of town there was a railroad yard that was very large. Nothing is left of that. On the other side of the river is Sneads. They were a farming and railroad town. And home of a plantation that was owned by a Black slave owner before the Civil War. A lot of history happened in this area, history most would like to forget. There is a reason they have let most all the remnants of the past be forgotten.

So glad you went to port st Joe. My parents vacation at St. George island twice a year and we love those towns and apolachicola. It’s so much quieter than our home in Pinellas county and the fishing is incredible.

Hey Joe, that was neither the Gulf of Mexico nor the Gulf of America. That was St Jospeh’s Bay. You should have driven out to Cape San Blas or over to Mexico Beach to see the Gulf. Great video. My family and I vacation yearly on the Cape.

I have a question, it occurs to me that in the towns you rarely see someone walking on foot or biking. What's the reason for that?

… And the '600 freed slaves' had nowhere to go, no means of feeding themselves and wandered aimlessly for the next 150 years, taking low paying work IF they could find it, committing crimes and staying in the State. Most of the slaves in the Southern States STAYED in the South and if you look at the US demographics today, you'll find that it's still true. The majority of Blacks still live in the Confederate South. Did the Northern Army feed and provide for them? NO. Did Abraham Lincoln help them once the War was over? NO. Did General Sherman free his slaves? NO. Were their lives improved by being freed? NO. Are they happier and better off now than they were then? Not the majority and our CRIME & poverty statistics today verify that. They are what they are, because BLM only matters for politicians and grifter's.

Mariana and Blountstown 102 is a former Western Maryland RR caboose that never actually ran on the road. 444 is a steam locomotive.

As an outsider what strikes me most is in some of the towns and cities the complete lack of, or very minimal, number of people walking around. Now that could be just coincidence and its a weekend when shops are closed but it does standout like this video depicts.

If the cinema at 11:09 was like many other theaters in the south in the 50s-60s, the side ticket window would have been for black patrons, and there would have been a separate entrance with stairs leading up to the balcony. In the small Georgia town I live in, the side window and stairs are still there.

Another cool thing is the Caverns at Mariana State Park! The cave tour is awesome!

I believe the big population drop happened after they finished the Jim Woodward dam project. I’ve stayed at the COE campground at the dam several times. Thanks for the views as always!!

The Jackson County Courthouse really surprised me when it was built back in 1963. I actually thought it had just been Constructed in 2020-it looks so Modern 🤔.

Creeks were taken in by the Seminoles along with runaway slaves. The Seminoles are the only unconquered tribe as they refused to march to Oklahoma hiding in the Everglades instead eeking out a life living in chickee huts off the land

Native Floridian here, grew up in Broward County, now live in Brevard County. I love traveling the back roads through small towns. When I retired young at 54, people would ask what are you going to do? Drive slow in a small town with no one behind me😂
