Apple employee here. Never EVER do this, especially during hot months. Ipads are already prone to overheating and need a ton of ventilation on either side. Especially with it facing you like this and hot plastic at the back, that plastic can easily melt and stick to the ventilation ports. Swollen batteries or even explosions can occur. This is why when ipads are built into walls etc, there's a ventilation fan behind them. A silicone case actually helps to cool an ipad down. Plastic does not! Again this is NOT worth it especially when its an ipad your kid is probably 4 inches away from.
