Canyon Driving Tips (Know Before You Go)
A few simple ways to help protect wildlife and keep the canyon experience smooth for everyone.
Watch for wildlife
It’s common to see elk, bighorn sheep, deer, and wild turkeys along this route—and sometimes right on the road.
If an oncoming driver flashes their headlights, it’s usually a friendly heads-up that wildlife is ahead. Slow down and stay alert.
Go at your own pace
The canyon has curves and changing speeds. Take it at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
Use pull-offs to let others pass
You’ll notice designated turn-off areas along the road. If cars start to stack up behind you, it’s courteous to use these to let faster drivers pass.
Stay right in passing lanes
When the road opens to two lanes, stay in the right lane unless you’re actively passing another vehicle.
11. Arrival: Estes Park
📍 Estes Park Visitor Center
500 Big Thompson Ave, Estes Park, CO
You’ve made it—mountain views, fresh air, and a slower pace.
