UK: The former managing director of the luxury Stafford Collection, John McLean, has stepped down after 20 months in the role.

McLean first joined The Stafford London in May 2024 as general manager. He was promoted to managing director of the collection in January the following year.

Prior to The Stafford, McLean held other general manager positions across London at The Cadogan (a Belmond hotel), The Kensington Hotel (part of The Doyle Collection), and Brown’s Hotel (Rocco Forte Hotels).

His international experience includes managerial roles in Italy at Villa Igiea, a Rocco Forte hotel, alongside 10 years with Oberoi Hotels & Resorts across properties in Mauritius, India and Indonesia.

Writing on LinkedIn, McLean said: “Leading this remarkable hotel has been both a privilege and a deeply rewarding experience. Together with an outstanding team — and in collaboration with Michael Caines — we embarked on an ambitious repositioning journey that culminated in the hotel being awarded its first Michelin star. Seeing the passion, resilience and commitment of the team recognised on such a prestigious stage is something I will always be proud of.

“Beyond the accolades, it is the people who have made this chapter so special — our dedicated colleagues, loyal guests, and trusted partners. Their belief in our vision and collective effort to elevate the experience at The Stafford has been truly inspiring.

“As I close this chapter, I do so with immense gratitude and pride in what we have achieved together. I now look forward to the next opportunity to lead, to build exceptional teams, and to create hospitality experiences that resonate and endure.”
