For travelers who want a laid-back cruise experience without the scale (or price tag) of today’s biggest ships, Margaritaville at Sea is worth a closer look.
Founded in 2022 with a single ship, Margaritaville at Sea Paradise, the line began with short Bahamas cruises from West Palm Beach, Florida, and quickly reimagined the ship with its signature laid-back, Jimmy Buffett–inspired aesthetic that Parrotheads have come to know and love.
In summer 2024, Margaritaville at Sea added a second ship, Margaritaville at Sea Islander, and in early 2027, it will debut its third vessel: Margaritaville at Sea Beachcomber. When Beachcomber debuts, Margaritaville at Sea will operate voyages to the Caribbean and The Bahamas from three Florida home ports: West Palm Beach, Tampa and Miami.
While the brand leans into a fun, social atmosphere (as the song says, “It’s five o’clock somewhere”), this is more laid-back than a traditional party-focused cruise line. People come to enjoy drinks and entertainment, but the experience is closer to Key West casual than high-energy nightlife.
Here’s a closer look at what sets Margaritaville at Sea apart — and why one of the line’s Caribbean voyages should be in your future.
An oceangoing experience like no other
One of the defining characteristics of Margaritaville at Sea is its focus on smaller ships. They may not be the size of today’s megaships, but they are still big enough to offer plenty of entertainment, dining options and relaxed adventure. The line has positioned itself as an alternative for travelers who do not want the scale or pace of the largest cruise ships, offering guests the freedom to unwind and the space to explore.
The brand has put an emphasis on equipping its ships with live music, casual dining and social bars and lounges. The line’s fun, whimsical decor cannot be mistaken for any other cruise line; it represents bold island fun and tropical relaxation, all rolled into a single package that draws a broad mix of travelers seeking a joyful, low-stress cruise experience.
In general terms, Margaritaville at Sea presents itself as delightfully laid-back, somewhere between high-energy mass-market lines and more relaxed premium brands.
Margaritaville magic
Much of the appeal of Margaritaville at Sea can be found in its unique themed entertainment, decor and food-and-beverage offerings. The onboard atmosphere leans into a casual Caribbean vibe, with live music, themed events and social venues.

Margaritaville at Sea’s whimsical take on Jimmy Buffett’s classic tunes extends to its bars and lounges, as well as special events held on each voyage, like the brand-new “White Hot Neon Nights” party that offers special drinks, glowing face paint and a live DJ to dance the night away to.
The line has also designed its own unique production shows, from “Caribbean Heat,” a show combining hits from Rihanna, Pitbull, Bob Marley and more, to “Radio Margaritaville,” a live-action set featuring a DJ spinning tunes from the decades that pay homage to everything Margaritaville. Passengers can also experience “Conky Tonkin’ at Sea,” a country music–inspired production featuring a mix of contemporary and classic hits, along with high-energy choreography and acrobatics.
They are even pushing the envelope with its food-and-beverage offerings. Its margaritas are on point, as one might expect, with clever concoctions that go far beyond the standard namesake drink everyone knows and loves. These include the Moneyline Margarita served in the ship’s casino; the Ginger Margarita; and even the Sparkling Margarita, an interesting concoction that combines tequila, lemon, agave nectar and sparkling wine.
Margaritaville at Sea also introduced a new dining concept across its entire fleet in 2027. Known as the High Tide Market, this unique venue replaces the standard cruise ship buffet with entirely new food concepts, including Frank & Lola’s Pizzeria, Mexican Cutie Cantina, Slice of Paradise for desserts and License to Chill Sandwich Shack. Best of all: It’s all included in the cruise fare.
Unique shore tie-ins

Margaritaville at Sea does not rely heavily on private island destinations. Instead, it focuses on established ports of call across The Bahamas, the Caribbean and the Florida Keys.
One notable claim to fame: Margaritaville offers excursions in Nassau, Bahamas, that allow guests to kick back and relax at the Margaritaville Beach Resort Nassau, located within a five-minute walk of the cruise port.
The line also puts extra emphasis on relaxation on its shore excursion roster. To that end, expect to see lots of beach breaks, resort passes and other options perfect for those who want to chill out, read a book and relax with a drink in hand. Plenty of more active, adventurous excursions are available, too, if that suits your fancy, but the laid-back Caribbean vibe definitely translates to the line’s shore excursion program.
What’s more, as a family-friendly cruise line, Margaritaville at Sea includes plenty of shore excursions suitable for the entire family, including day passes to Margaritaville Beach Resort Nassau, which offers plenty of family fun with its swimming pools, lazy river and on-site dining options.
Margaritaville at Sea still wants you to see the authentic Caribbean, though, so each port of call features local food, drinks and customs. And as the line expands its footprint into other parts of the Caribbean, that emphasis will only grow. You might not expect a value-oriented line to offer sailings to exotic ports of call like Aruba, Curaçao or Jamaica, but that’s exactly what Margaritaville at Sea offers. It’s more than you’d expect for a price that is tough to beat in the Caribbean.
Caribbean-focused itineraries
Margaritaville at Sea offers several distinct itineraries that are geographically tied to each ship and its home port, from quick two-night getaways to extensive 10-day sailings into the heart of the Southern Caribbean.
- Margaritaville at Sea Paradise sails out of West Palm Beach on two- to five-night voyages to The Bahamas, Key West and the Caribbean, including Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic; Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos; and Cozumel, Mexico.
- Margaritaville at Sea Islander sails four- to 10-night cruises to the Caribbean from Tampa. Those looking for a longer cruise will also find it here. For example, cruisers can choose a spectacular 10-night voyage that departs from Tampa and sails to Aruba, Curaçao, Jamaica, Grand Cayman and the Dominican Republic.
- Margaritaville at Sea Beachcomber makes its home in the cruise capital of the world, Miami. From PortMiami, the ship will offer four- to eight-night cruises to The Bahamas and the Caribbean, including ports like St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and even Bonaire and Aruba on select sailings.
It’s hard to believe that the line got its start offering short two-night runs to Freeport, Bahamas, and back just a few years ago. Now, Margaritaville at Sea offers plenty of choice in the Caribbean, particularly for those who want to spend more time in actual ports of call and less time on private islands.
Great deals for a great price
Margaritaville at Sea is family-friendly and strives to offer some of the best deals. To that end, it frequently runs promotions for families and couples, making it one of the most affordable cruise experiences in the Caribbean.
While pricing is competitive, the onboard experience focuses on delivering strong value. In fact, Margaritaville at Sea punches far above its weight, earning rave reviews for its crews, ships and sailings. In an era in which travel can quickly descend into high costs for nearly everything, Margaritaville’s pricing structure is a refreshing change from what other cruise lines are doing in the Caribbean.
One of its most notable programs is the “Heroes Sail Free” program, which offers complimentary cruise fares (taxes and fees apply) to active-duty military, veterans, first responders and educators.
Unlike other cruise lines that sometimes run limited-time promotions for members of the military and first responders, Margaritaville’s “Heroes Sail Free” program is a staple of its identity as a brand. It is offered year-round across the company’s fleet of ships.
The idea behind the promotion is simple and reflects Margaritaville at Sea’s ethos: Everyone deserves a vacation. With the line continuing to grow, adding Margaritaville at Sea Beachcomber from PortMiami in 2027, Margaritaville at Sea is quickly becoming a serious force to be reckoned with in the Caribbean cruise circuit.
