Togo’s Sandwiches has a new CEO.

The Campbell, California-based chain has promoted its CFO Matt Dowling to the CEO suite. He replaces Glenn Lunde, who last week announced a move to helm Yoshinoya America, but he also retains the CFO role.

While Lunde positioned the 170-unit chain for growth, Dowling will follow suit in overseeing operations, setting strategic goals, focus on growing unit counts and driving financial performance, the company said Tuesday.

It’s not the first time Dowling has served in a dual CFO role. He previously worked at Boudin, the famed San Francisco sourdough bakery chain, as CFO and president. And he was CFO/CEO of Marin Bikes, a global wholesaler and distributor of bicycles.

Dowling said in a statement he is looking forward to pushing the more than 50-year-old Togo’s brand forward in 2025.

In his nearly three years with the fast-casual sandwich chain, Dowling said he has transformed HR, finance and accounting operations so the collection and communication of information is accurate, efficient and more streamlined for franchisees and the overall team. Streamlining of systems will continue, he said.

“The future of Togo’s is exciting, with new stores in Burbank, California, and Vancouver, Washington, opening in Q4, continuing our 3.0 design remodels, franchise expansion in new markets and launching new products and programs to engage our loyal guests,” he said.

Founded in 1971 in San Jose, California, Togo’s is an almost entirely franchised brand with units open or under development in Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, Washington state, and, of course, California.
