US: Hyatt will redevelop the South Congress Hotel in Austin, reopening in 2027 as The Standard and the brand’s first US opening in more than a decade.
Hyatt and Timberline Real Estate are partners on the project. Design will be led by Austin-based Michael Hsu with interiors by Goodrich Design and The Standard’s Verena Haller-headed team.
Hyatt said The Standard Austin will function as an evolving “campus of ideas”. Social wellness experiences, a rooftop pool, and restaurants and bars will all feature in the hotel.
“I have always loved the South Congress Hotel and have long envisioned its potential to be The Standard, Austin,” said Amar Lalvani, creative lead and president of Hyatt’s lifestyle division. “We’ve assembled an incredible team of Austin-based friends and collaborators who will both honour the property’s legacy and breathe new life into it. Austin deserves a hotel that reflects the cultural capital it has always been and the world-class city it has become.”
Stan Nix, managing partner of Timberline, said: “South Congress has always been a place where Austin’s past and future meet. Bringing The Standard brand here feels like the natural next step—a commitment to the street’s legacy and an opportunity to create something globally relevant, socially vibrant, and built for the long term.”
South Congress Hotel will close this summer, with The Standard planned to open in spring 2027.
