The event, co-organized by the Foreign Affairs Office of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, China Daily, and Meituan Bike Sharing, successfully highlighted Shanghai’s excellent cycling infrastructure. Participants learned about Zhang Yuan’s historical ties to cycling, including the city’s first documented bicycle demonstration in 1886. Expats like Edwin Montealegre from Costa Rica enthusiastically praised the convenience and safety of cycling, noting the effortless process of finding and unlocking a bike with a simple phone scan. Mahmoud Soliman, a professor and international experience ambassador from Egypt, who has enjoyed Shanghai for over 10 years, also expressed deep appreciation for the city’s bike-friendly environment.
