A law enforcement ranger died Sunday at Voyageurs National Park while coming to the aid of visitors/NPS file
A law-enforcement ranger at Voyageurs National Park died Sunday while assisting a disabled vessel to shore.
The ranger had responded late in the morning to a call from a vessel on Namakan Lake, a park release said. “While towing the distressed vessel, the NPS boat capsized, forcing the ranger and the three individuals being assisted into the water,” the release said. “The three members of the public were able to swim to safety, but the ranger was unaccounted for.”
After three hours of searching, the unidentified ranger’s body was found shortly before 3:30 p.m.
The park reported high winds and rough waters were reported at the time.
