MOUNTAIN COMMUNITIES—The Sierra National Forest (SNF) has begun winter and spring prescribed burning. To manage forest fuels and enhance safety, SNF expects burn projects to span nearly 4,000 acres across Fresno, Madera, and Mariposa Counties. This initiative planned through March 2025, aims to improve ecosystem health and protect nearby communities from wildfires.

Burning will occur in various areas across both Ranger Districts. Work will take place primarily during the week to reduce the impact of smoke, although some operations may take place on weekends. Smoke and flames may be visible during burns. SNF will be placing signs to keep you informed.

SNF advises residents and visitors to exercise caution when traveling near burn sites and refrain from reporting controlled burns via the 9-1-1 emergency system. There could be temporary reductions in air quality. Information is available at www.airnow.gov and www.valleyair.org
.
Sierra National Forest will coordinate with local air pollution control districts and the National Weather Service for optimal weather conditions and smoke dispersion.
