FRANCE —  Nate Hodges, a North Fork local, solidified his place in STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® history by claiming his first Individual World Championship at the Zénith Toulouse Métropole.  Hodges thrilled over 5,000 fans with a Hot Saw finale, securing the victory over New Zealand’s Jack Jordan and Canada’s Ben Cumberland for second and third place.

Notably, Hodges’ victory marked the peak of a journey built on determination and hard work. The American athlete, who began competing in TIMBERSPORTS® in 2019, has rapidly ascended the ranks of the sport. He overcame seasoned competitors to claim the championship. In turn, proving that relentless dedication can lead to extraordinary success.

Over the course of that weekend, more than 9,000 fans attended the championship, which showcased the world’s best logger sports athletes. Hodges’ performances across six disciplines, including three personal bests, propelled him to the top. Specifically, his standout achievements in the Springboard (42.73 seconds) and Single Buck (11.74 seconds) gave him a commanding lead heading into the final event, the Hot Saw.

In the Hot Saw event, Hodges set a blazing time of 5.36 seconds. With his fate hanging in the balance, he watched as his rivals made their attempts. Jack Jordan, consistent through the competition, stumbled with an extra cut that cost him valuable seconds. Moreover, Ben Cumberland’s push for the title ended in disqualification. Consequently, Hodges’ final tally of 67 points secured his championship victory.

Reflecting on his win, Hodges said, “Everyone around me knows how much work I’ve put in to get here.”

Hodges continues, “It’s been a journey of blood, sweat, and tears, but standing here with this trophy makes it all worth it.”

He credited his family for their unwavering support, adding, “This victory is theirs as much as it is mine.”

Praise from Rivals & Teammates

Meanwhile, Jordan, the runner-up, praised Hodges’ achievement.

“You’re always a bit disappointed when you don’t win, but Nate earned this,” he said. “It’s inspiring to see someone work so hard and rise to the top.”

Similarly. Cumberland echoed these sentiments, calling Hodges’ journey “incredible” and a reminder that it is “never too late to chase your dreams.”

Additionally, the weekend highlighted Team USA’s performance in the Team World Championship. Athletes Jason Lentz, Matt Cogar, Matt Stingerland, and Mark Bouquin competed against 19 nations in Stock Saw, Underhand Chop, Single Buck, and Standing Block Chop. In the final round, Team USA delivered a time of 45.60 seconds, pushing reigning champions Australia to the limit. Ultimately, the Americans secured a silver medal, showcasing exceptional skill and teamwork.

Looking back on the competition, Jason Lentz remarked, “We always wish for gold, but this is a great team win, and it’s always a pleasure to cut with them.”

A Historic Weekend in Toulouse

Finally, France, hosting the event for the first time, provided a vibrant stage for a historic weekend. Hodges’ extraordinary performance and Team USA’s strong showing celebrated the global spirit of TIMBERSPORTS® and left fans with unforgettable moments.
