Nasolot National Reserve Entrance Fees 2024

In this article, we will discuss Nasolot National Reserve entrance fees. The reserve is 146 km north of Kitale, to the west of the A1 Kitale-Lodwar road. The reserve’s gate lies 6.2 km off the A1 main road. Listed in the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) records of afro-tropical protected areas, Nasolot Game Reserve is a pendant hanging freely and undisturbed in West Pokot County.

Nasolot National Reserve was established in 1979 and has 9200 hectares of magnificent, rugged, rocky land. The reserve has many flora and fauna, ranging from the largest herds of African elephants, estimated at 300 per herd during the recent collaring. These elephants often migrate along the Rimoi game reserve in Elgeiyo-Marakwet and the South Turkana national reserve using the Masol corridor. The Pellow and Masol community conservancies border the reserve.

The reserve also boasts of buffaloes, lesser kudus, bushbucks, duikers, lions, leopards, dik-diks, spotted hyenas, jackals, impalas, olive baboons, sykes and vervet monkeys, beisa and fringe-eared oryx, waterbucks, Thompson’s gazelle, and hippos. Most of these wildlife numbers have declined due to subsistence poaching, and human-wildlife conflict. In coordination with the Kenya Wildlife Service, the county government has embarked on restocking the reserve. The reserve has the potential for game viewing, bird watching, rock climbing, nature walks, and camping.

Nasolot National Reserve Activities

1. Game Viewing 

Nasolot National Reserve is known as a popular destination with several huge populations of animals that are all over the national reserve. The animals that you will spot while doing the game drive safari in Nasolot National Reserve include the duiker, giraffe, bushbuck, leopard, olive baboon, lions, fringe-eared Oryx, waterbuck, hippopotamus, impala, lesser Kudu, bushbuck, spotted hyena, buffaloes, and gazelles, among others.

Nasolot National Reserve also offers sport fishing as an activity that visitors can engage in while on a safari in this great reserve. The activity of sport fishing in the reserve is conducted at the Turkwel River, which hosts various species of fish. While using several fishing methods and equipment, you will be able to catch several types of fish, especially the Nile perch, robber lates, and catfish, among several others.

3. Bird-watching 

Nasolot National Reserve is one of the important habitats for bird species, though there are no big bird species that are found within the reserve. The most common bird species found within the Nasolot National Reserve include secretary birds, tufted ducks, plain nightjars, yellow-billed ducks, rock doves, comb ducks, speckled pigeon little egrets, African sacred ibis, and Eurasian widgeons, among other bird species.

Bird watching in Nasolot National Reserve will require you to visit one of the best sections of the reserve that are known to harbour important bird species, and visitors can easily do the bird-watching activity early in the morning or later in the evening to have a clear view of the bird species.

4. Boat Riding at River Turkwel

5. Camping

The reserve offers a camping experience to visitors who are interested in it.
