O’Neals, CAMinarets and Minarets Charter High School have emerged as the top-performing high schools in Madera County, according to the recently released 2024 CAASPP (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress) results.  Notably, the schools outpaced competitors such as Yosemite, Liberty, and Madera High in key subjects, including English, Math, and Science.

A Remarkable Turnaround

Minarets seems to exceed SBAC Test result percentages, compared to other competitor schools.

To begin, this achievement marks a significant turnaround from just years ago.  In 2022, under the leadership of Principal Rhonda Corippo, the schools began to implement sweeping changes.  At that time, Minarets High Schools were trailing behind other schools in the region.  However, the schools reversed course today, with a rise in academic standards and student performance.

Math and Sped Teacher, Tariq Mahmood, states, “When I started at Minarets in 2022, we were being outperformed by these schools in many subjects and some in all subjects.”

Today, the transformation is undeniable, and it’s a direct result of the dedication and hard work of our teachers in the Ag, English, Math, History, VaPA, PE, and SPED departments, among others,” Mahmood says.

Mahmood continues, “Every teacher on this campus has raised the bar, setting expectations and supporting students to exceed them.”

Faculty Dedication & Expanded Pathways

In addition, much of this success can be attributed to the dedication of the minarets’ faculty.  Teachers across departments—Agriculture, English, Math, History. Visual and Performing Arts (VaPA), Physical Education (PE), and Special Education (SPED)— have been working tirelessly to set higher expectations for students.  As a result, their collective efforts have provided the necessary support to help students exceed those expectations.

Moreover, alongside strong classroom teaching, the work of the assistant principals have been vital as well.   Together, they have expanded course offerings and academic pathways for students. These include a growing number of dual enrollment opportunities, allowing students to earn college credits while still in high school.

“But it’s not just our teachers—our assistant principal Brian Curwick and counselors, Jessica Chacon and Stefani Camacho, have played a key role in shaping course offerings and pathways that set our students up for success,” says Mahmood.

Leadership at the Core of Success

Not to mention, Principal Corippo’s leadership has been a driving force behind these improvements.  For instance, her vision has not only elevated academic standards but also fostered a strong sense of community and belonging.  Consequently, this focus on both academic success and personal development has helped solidify Minarets High Schools’ standing as leaders in Madera County’s education system.

“I feel incredibly fortunate to work alongside such talented and dedicated educators,” says Mahmood. “But above all, I want to express my deep appreciation for Rhonda Corippo’s leadership.

Her vision and unwavering support have been the driving force behind our success,” exclaims Mahmood.

Looking Ahead

All in all, Minarets’ Schools will continue to build on their success. With a dedicated staff and strong leadership, the schools are looking to continue shaping a lasting legacy in the county’s educational landscape.
