German shipyard Meyer Werft has announced that it is the shipbuilder that will construct four newly-announced upcoming vessels for Disney Cruise Line. It’s the largest order Meyer Werft has ever had. The ships are scheduled to debut between 2027 and 2031.

“We are very happy to continue our partnership with Disney Cruise Line and build four additional outstanding ships over the next seven years,” said Bernard Meyer, CEO of Meyer Werft. “We now have eight ships for Disney Cruise Line in our order book which reflects the trust in our capabilities and hard work of our team.”

The four additional ships were announced this past weekend during Disney’s D23 fan event in Anaheim, California. The cruise line already had four new ships in the pipeline, which now brings its upcoming ship count to eight. With the five that are currently sailing in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, this will grow the fleet to 13 ships total by 2031.

“Our Disney cruise ships are the true ambassadors for our brands and beloved by families the world over,” said Thomas Mazloum, president of Disney’s New Experiences Portfolio and Disney Signature Experiences. “As we embark on this ambitious and unprecedented expansion for Disney Cruise Line, we are delighted to work with Meyer Werft once again.”

Meyer Werft and Disney have had a longstanding relationship that started with the construction of Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy, which were delivered in 2010 and 2012, respectively. Ten years later in 2022, the line’s first Triton-class ship, Disney Wish, was handed over by Meyer Werft. Two sister ships to Wish, Disney Treasure and Disney Destiny, are currently under construction in Papenburg and are slated for 2024 and 2025 deliveries.

With this new order, Meyer Werft currently has 10 cruise ships, a research vessel, and four offshore converter platforms on contract, which are scheduled to be delivered through 2031.
