Mammoth Cave National Park Fights Back Against Bad Online Reviews

Kentucky’s Mammoth Cave National Park has seen plenty of bad reviews on the internet. “Too dark.” “Not interesting at all.” “If your [sic] into a massive hole, it’s cool.” These are just a few.

But the park’s staff have decided to embrace the poor reviews and make the best of them as marketing tools. In a recent Facebook post, the park noted it had recently been named one of the most disappointing national parks in the country, and proposed that readers “Come experience what has disappointed millions of people for over 225 years!” Should you go, the park cheerily notes, “A world of regret awaits you at Mammoth Cave!”

The National Park Service is no stranger to employing sarcastic social media to generate interest.

For years, the park service’s official social media accounts have used ironic, slapstick, or just plain weird tones in their posts to generate attention and provide some educational levity.

If you’d like to experience what makes Mammoth Cave National Park prompt such a response, the park’s social media team reminds you to “make your cave tour reservations and find all the information you need to plan your very own ‘not enjoyable’ visit to Mammoth Cave National Park at: https://ow.ly/8ifx50T59Eo.”
