If you’re a business owner looking to earn Membership Rewards points in popular bonus categories, the American Express® Business Gold Card is an excellent option.

In addition to its advantageous point-earning opportunities, the card offers solid statement credits and an exceptional welcome offer — all in exchange for a $375 annual fee (see rates and fees).

Are you eligible for this mid-tier business card? Here’s what you need to know.

Amex Business Gold welcome offer

When you apply for the Amex Business Gold, you can find out your offer and see if you are eligible for as high as 200,000 bonus points after spending $15,000 on purchases in your first three months of card membership. Welcome offers vary, and you may not be eligible for an offer.

THE POINTS GUY

Since TPG’s April 2026 valuations place Membership Rewards points at 2 points each, this bonus could be worth up to $4,000.

If you’re eligible for the most valuable offer available, you could bring in a substantial haul of points. You’ll also want to factor in the high spending requirement for this card when you’re deciding if it’s right for you.

Remember that this card is subject to Amex’s once-per-lifetime rule. So, you’re only eligible for a bonus if you’ve never held the card before.

Earning rates

With this card, you’ll earn 4 points per dollar spent in your top two spending categories each billing cycle (on up to $150,000 each calendar year, then 1 point per dollar spent).

Amex will automatically determine your top two categories of business spending every month by using all posted account transactions that fall into the six categories:

  • Monthly wireless telephone service charges made directly from a wireless telephone service provider in the U.S.
  • Purchases at U.S. media providers for advertising in select media (online, radio, TV)
  • Transit purchases, including buses, ferries, parking, ride-hailing services, subways, taxicabs, tolls and trains
  • U.S. purchases at gas stations
  • U.S. purchases at restaurants, including takeout and delivery
  • U.S. purchases made from electronic goods retailers, and software and cloud system providers

Cardmembers also earn 3 points per dollar spent on flights and prepaid hotels booked on amextravel.com or the Amex Travel Appâ„¢.
