Carnival Cruise Line Fleet Cruise Director Chris “The Flying Scotsman” Williams has announced that he is retiring from the company.

In a video posted to his social media on Thursday, Williams said that his final day with Carnival will be tomorrow, August 10th. In it, he explained that he’s retiring after 13 years with Carnival to spend more time with his family.

“It is with a heavy heart that I do this,” Williams said. “I’ve been in my new job as fleet cruise director for the last nine months, and it has been wonderful. I absolutely love the job, more than anything else. To help nurture and grow future cruise directors is a wonderful experience.”

He explained that he’s leaving to spend more time with his family and be there for his daughter’s important events and milestones as she grows up.

“When I turned 40 this year,” he continued, “I had about 60, 70 people turn up to my birthday party and it was all friends and family and it was just a moment there when I saw everyone and I knew that my little girl is five years old now and I wanna make sure that I’m there to see her grow up, but also there to support my wife and help her.”

Williams also thanked Carnival by saying he owed the cruise line everything. “This company brought me and my wife together as performers, where we met, fell in love. We lived a great life. This company also brought us together to get married. This company brought us together to then bring a child into this world. This company gave me a house to call my own. I owe this company everything.”

Chris Williams joined Carnival as a singer 13 years ago and moved up the ranks, becoming a guest-favorite cruise director on the line’s ships. Fans of the line were excited to see him move up the ranks again to become one of the line’s new fleet cruise directors last year. In this position, he oversaw and mentored Carnival’s cruise directors.

“I’m gonna be saying goodbye to a massive part of my life,” Williams said as he wrapped up the video. “A part of my life that I will treasure forever. A part of my life that I will be forever grateful for… I do not have a bad word to say about Carnival Cruise Line. They truly are family.”
