China: Boutique hotel Southside by Ovolo has undergone an interior transformation, launching a new restaurant, themed rooms, and more.
Located in the district of Wong Chuk Hang on the south side of Hong Kong, Southside by Ovolo opened in 2014. At the time, it marked one of the first warehouse-to-hotel conversions on the island.
Having undergone a recent transformation, the property now offers Rock Star Suites which pay homage to musicians such as Freddie Mercury and John Lennon. These suites provide views over the surrounding beaches and mountains and feature a built-in bar and custom artworks.
Other themed rooms include B.Duck, a novelty character well known in Hong Kong inspired by the 1992 capsizing of a cargo ship containing more than 29,000 plastic ducks. The B.Duck room at Southside by Ovolo comes with a play tent and other branded entertainment for children.
The relaunch of the hotel also sees the introduction of premium steakhouse Flat Iron Deluxe, which alongside its lunch and dinner menu offers a kid’s menu, serves weekend brunches, hosts cooking classes and more.
Additional amenities include the new Wonder Bar in the lounge, numerous meeting and event spaces, a gym, a rooftop, and outdoor event space The Terrace. The reception has also been moved to the third floor.
Stephen Howard, group director of marketing for Ovolo Hotels, said: “At the core of this R[evolution] is a change in ethos and branding to reflect the desires of the hotel’s guests, coupled with new experiences. The ‘Your New Local’ positioning and branding was developed by the in-house Ovolo marketing and brand team to reflect the cultural hub of Wong Chuk Hang and to pay homage to Hong Kong’s rich, dynamic, and eclectic heritage across many facets of life.”
Southside by Ovolo is a member of Design Hotels.
