Viking Adds Another New River Ship on the Nile in Egypt

Viking, the world’s largest river cruise line, continues to expand its presence in Egypt as it took delivery of another new ship for the Nile River.

A delivery ceremony for the ship took place at Massara shipyard in Cairo, Egypt.

This newest ship, Viking Ptah, is a sister ship to several others that are currently sailing on the Nile River in Egypt. You can take a look at these custom-built Nile River ships here.

These small ships carry just 82 guests in 41 staterooms, and every cabin/suite has either a balcony or French balcony.

Viking Ptah will sail Viking’s extremely popular 12-day Pharaohs & Pyramids itinerary. Cruise Fever had the opportunity to sample this cruise, and it turned out to be our favorite cruise we’ve ever taken.

The trip starts off with a few days at a hotel in Cairo so guests can visit the pyramids, museums, and other historical sites in and around the city.

A charter flight takes guests to Luxor, where they will board their ship for a seven-night cruise on the Nile River. A charter flight back a week later will give guests additional time in Cairo before they fly home.

Viking expects to take delivery of 20 more river ships over the next three years. In addition, they will also add nine ocean ships and two expedition ships to its fleet by 2031.

This will give the cruise line 114 river ships by 2028 and 26 ocean and expedition ships in 2031.
