Move over, Hollywood Walk of Fame, there’s a new star in Los Angeles: the 177,800-gross ton Star Princess. The Port of Los Angeles welcomed Princess Cruises’ newest Sphere-class ship for the first time on Tuesday, April 28, for an overnight visit.
Princess Cruises has a long history with the Port of Los Angeles. Over the last sixty years, they have offered more frequent sailings from LA than any other cruise line. The arrival of their newest and most luxurious ship shows that the relationship isn’t going anywhere.
“For Princess to add yet another cruise ship sailing from our LA Waterfront is terrific news, and a notable milestone in our decades-long partnership,” said Gene Seroka, Port of Los Angeles Executive Director.
This stop in Los Angeles is brief, as Star Princess will depart at 11:59 pm on April 29, 2026, for Seattle to begin her first-ever Alaska season. However, she will return in September, offering many itineraries featuring LA across 18 months.
The second ship in Princess Cruises’ Sphere Class, Star Princess features 2,157 total staterooms, 80 of which are suites.
Across its 21 decks, she boasts 5 locations for live entertainment, such as Spellbound by Magic Castle and 30 dining venues, including specialty dining like Butcher’s Block by Dario and The Catch by Rudi. For relaxation and sun, there are five different pools onboard as well as a wellness studio and spa.
In November 2025, Cruise Hive reported that the 4,300-guest ship was christened by two other stars who are no strangers to Los Angeles: Hollywood actor Matthew McConaughey and his wife, entrepreneur Camila McConaughey.
Star Princess has since homeported in Fort Lauderdale, offering Caribbean itineraries, before this move to the west coast.
What Itineraries Are Offered From LA?
Star Princess joins Discovery Princess, Emerald Princess, and Crown Princess in Los Angeles to offer a variety of itineraries heading to Alaska, Mexico, Hawaii, the Panama Canal, and the Pacific Coast.
The first major itinerary on the menu for Star Princess departing from Los Angeles is a 16-Day Panama Canal voyage departing October 4, 2026. This itinerary will stop at Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan, Fuerte Amador (Panama City), and Aruba, before dropping cruisers off in Fort Lauderdale.
Another exciting option is a 7-Day Mexican Riviera cruise departing April 19, 2027, hitting Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas before returning to Los Angeles.

Also offered is a 4-Day Pacific Coast itinerary departing April 26, 2027, and heading one way, non-stop to Vancouver.

Los Angeles Cruising Is Growing
The arrival of Star Princess comes as LA prepares to expand its cruise presence, and is a good omen of the growth to come.
In January 2026, Cruise Hive reported on plans for a massive cruise terminal expansion project at the Port of Los Angeles.
As an effort to prepare for the 2028 Summer Olympics, which will be hosted in LA, the port partnered with Carrix, Inc., and JCL Infrastructure to build a brand new, modern cruise terminal at the port.
The new port terminal will feature sustainable shore power capabilities, allowing shore power-enabled ships like Star Princess to hook up directly to the city’s power grid and shut off their engines while docked.
Additionally, the World Cruise Center is being redeveloped and upgraded by Pacific Cruise Terminals. It’s safe to say that we may be seeing a lot more large, modern ships like Star Princess docking in the city of angels in the near future.
