The Kichi Kichi guy is coming.
Japanese Chef Motokichi Yukimura, who has a global social media following for his theatrical omurice technique at the Kyoto restaurant Kichi Kichi, is touring the U.S. for the first time with pop-up events this month.
Yukimura’s signature “Omurice Dance” is unique, to say the least.
Omurice is a chicken fried rice with a soft omelet and demi-glace. But Yukimura’s preparation involves operatic singing, dance moves and a dramatic presentation in which the soft-set omelet splits to envelope the rice.
Sometimes it’s a flip.
And sometimes it’s a knife split.
It’s hype, perhaps, but still an engaging experience that has drawn fans from around the world to Kichi Kichi.
Yukimura is visiting in a multi-city collaboration with Miami-based Spicy Hospitality Group, which operates concepts like The Joyce, Yasu Omakase and Karyu, where the Kichi Kichi chef will make guest appearances before moving on to New York and Los Angeles.
Presented in partnership with the reservation site Dorsia, it’s a prix-fixe event, and available to both members and non-members.
The tour begins at Yasu Omakase (April 17-18), followed by The Joyce (April 19) and Karyu (April 20-21).
In New York, Yukimura is scheduled to appear at the restaurant 53 NYC from April 23-25, and then in Los Angeles at Budonoki from April 27-28.
