Norwegian Cruise Line is reaching an exciting milestone in the transformation of its premier private destination, Great Stirrup Cay. To facilitate the final stages of a massive new two-berth pier, the island will temporarily transition back to tender service starting April 1, 2026. This brief pause in pier operations paves the way for a grand reopening in late July, coinciding with the highly anticipated debut of the six-acre Great Tides Waterpark. This expansion highlights NCL’s commitment to providing world-class amenities while maintaining the spacious, uncrowded atmosphere that makes this 270-acre Bahamian retreat a true industry standout.

The centerpiece of the development is the Tidal Tower, which will feature 19 waterslides, including innovative tube slides that allow riders to descend either forward or backward. Families will appreciate the inclusive design, as 16 of the slides feature lower height requirements of 36 to 42 inches. For those seeking a more relaxed pace, an 800-foot dynamic river will offer an immersive tunnel experience with LED projections, a feature currently found in only a few water parks globally. Additionally, a 9,000-square-foot interactive splash pad and the adventurous Cliffside Cove ensure that guests of all ages have a dedicated space for fun.

Beyond the thrills, the island has recently introduced the Great Life Lagoon and the adults-only Vibe Shore Club, which offers private cabanas and upscale dining. With only about half of the island developed, Norwegian Cruise Line has significant room for future growth, ensuring Great Stirrup Cay remains a top-tier differentiator in the competitive cruise market. The synergy of the new pier and the expansive water park promises to elevate the guest experience from great to truly magnificent by late summer.
