UK: Lifestyle brand Zedwell has expanded in London with two property signings in Bank and Spitalfields.
A Grade II-listed building at 1 Princes Street will be converted into a Zedwell hotel.
Constructed in 1929 as the headquarters of National Westminster Bank and designed by Sir Edwin Cooper, the property’s stone façade, domed ceiling and banking hall will be preserved and restored. The hall will become an inclusive public space for exhibitions, events and educational programming in partnership with local charities and community groups.
Halima Aziz, head of hotels at Zedwell, said: “1 Princes Street is one of the most prestigious buildings in the City of London, and this project reflects our vision to create hospitality destinations that are both respectful of their history and relevant for today’s guests. Importantly, it also introduces high-quality accommodation at an accessible price point for the people who work, live, study and visit the City, addressing a significant gap in the market.
“With a current and committed pipeline of more than 9,000 rooms by 2028, we are excited to continue building a scalable platform across supply-constrained gateway cities, and 1 Princes Street represents a major milestone in that journey,” she added.
The signing in Bank closely follows another project in Spitalfields. Located at the junction of Bell Lane and Artillery Lane, Zedwell will occupy a former six-storey office building. When complete, it will offer 143 “cocoons” alongside 7,500 square feet of workspace across the ground and first floors.
Both London properties join a growing UK portfolio, with Zedwell recently revealing expansion outside of the capital into Oxford and York.
