Where Oceania Sonata Will Sail

The ship’s first year is divided into two primary regions: the Mediterranean and the Americas.

The Mediterranean (August – November 2027)

The maiden voyage departs from Rome for a 14-day trip to Trieste, Italy. After the debut, the ship will spend the autumn months visiting major ports like Barcelona, Athens, and Lisbon, as well as smaller boutique ports like Paros, Greece.

Many of these routes include overnight stays in cities like Istanbul and Bordeaux to allow for more time in port.

The Americas (November 2027 – April 2028)

In late November, the ship will cross the Atlantic to Miami. From there, she will begin a winter season focused on the Caribbean (Barbados, Tortola) and Central/South America. Some interesting sailings include passing through the Panama Canal and stops along the Mexican Riviera, including Zihuatanejo.

About the Ship

Oceania Sonata is the first of four planned “Sonata Class” ships. It is designed to be more spacious than previous ships with the cruise line, carrying 1,390 guests with a crew of 855.

By comparison, Sonata will be an 86,000 gross ton ship while Oceania-class ships are about 66,000 GT.  That makes the new class about 26% larger.

Dining remains a big focus of the ship’s design. About half of the crew is dedicated to culinary operations, maintaining a ratio of one chef for every eight guests.

  • New Venues: La Table (an 18-seat French fine-dining experience) and Nikkei Kitchen (Japanese-Peruvian fusion).
  • Standard Features: Total of 13 dining venues, all included in the cruise fare.

The Suite Experience

The ship will also feature a higher percentage of suites than any previous Oceania ship (33% of all rooms).

  • New Categories: The “Horizon Suite” (600+ sq. ft.) and “Penthouse Deluxe Suite.”
  • Owner’s Suites: For the first time, these top-tier suites will feature two full bedrooms.
  • Service: Every suite category includes dedicated butler service.
