Disney Cruise Line (DCL) is embarking on its most expansive period in history, with plans to grow its fleet to a total of 13 ships by 2031. This massive increase, up from the current seven vessels, includes the upcoming Disney Adventure (2026), an unnamed fourth Wish-class ship (2027), a vessel dedicated to the Oriental Land Company (2029), and a completely new class of smaller ships launching by 2031.
The growth is accompanied by an evolution in onboard storytelling led by Walt Disney Imagineering. The newest ship, Disney Destiny, exemplifies this strategy with a unique heroes and villains theme. This duality allows for innovative and intimate character interactions with villains such as Dr. Facilier, Cruella de Vil, and Loki, who have historically been excluded from most shipboard experiences.
DCL continues to integrate Disney Parks intellectual property directly onto the ships, such as the Haunted Mansion Parlor and the Pirates of the Caribbean-themed Cask & Cannon pub. This blending of immersive spaces and world-class service is defined as the “Disney difference.”
Executives state the goal of the rapid expansion is to ensure DCL can “find a fit for every person’s needs” and maintain its reputation for delivering holistic, consistent value, even as the onboard stories evolve to incorporate new Marvel and Star Wars IP.
