Carnival Cruise Line returned to a Mexican cruise port for the first time in 15 years when one of their cruise ships had to make a schedule change due to weather.
Carnival Legend made a surprise visit to Acapulco, Mexico today. The cruise ship is currently on a 16-day repositioning cruise and made the unscheduled stop in Acapulco due to weather.
The ship is expected to continue on the rest of the planned itinerary that includes stops in Puntarenas, Costa Rica; Cartagena, Columbia; and Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands.
Carnival Legend will transit the Panama Canal on October 16 and will arrive to Galveston, Texas on October 22.

Carnival Cruise Line last visited Acapulco in 2010. Earlier this year, Carnival announced that Carnival Legend will stop at the port on a special Carnival Journeys cruise in 2027.
That 16-day repositioning cruise will depart Tampa, Florida on April 4, 2027, and will sail to Seattle, featuring a full Panama Canal transit and visits to Cartagena and Santa Marta, Colombia, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico – and Acapulco.
Carnival Legend departed from San Francisco on October 6 for its new home in Galveston.
Once in Texas, the cruise ship will sail four- to 10-night cruises to the Eastern and Western Caribbean for the winter season.
