10 Things Passengers Love and Hate About Carnival Cruise

Related Articles

Going on a cruise with Carnival is always a great adventure. Of course, it’s one of the most well-known and beloved cruise lines out there, and I have to say, it definitely lives up to the hype.

But like with all cruise lines, there are always some highs and lows, some things are spot-on, while others could definitely be improved.

I asked on my social media what you love and hate about Carnival, and in this article we’re going to look at the most common answers.

How Friendly the Staff Is

Carnival’s welcome

It doesn’t matter how many times passengers have been on Carnival cruises; it looks like the crew never disappoints.

From the moment you step onboard, they greet you with genuine smiles and a warmth that feels like you’re at home. What impresses me most is how, despite working long hours, every crew member maintains their enthusiastic spirit.

This is not an easy thing to do, and hard work must be recognized. I always leave a tip when I can.

Some Rowdy Passengers

Let’s be totally honest: Carnival’s affordability is both a blessing and a curse.

While many passengers love the price-quality ratio, we must also admit that the low price also attracts a type of passenger who is not really the best.

I frequently read comments about groups of rowdy teens racing through hallways. Comments about late-night noise from neighboring cabins, or about loud groups playing games by the pool without regard to the people around them.

So, if you’re seeking a quiet, refined experience, be prepared because Carnival’s “Fun Ships” definitely live up to their party (and loud) reputation.

Luckily, the rules around this have gotten stricter. You can check what changed in my article “Carnival Tightens Guest Conduct Rules Following Past Incidents“.

Complimentary Dining Options

The free food options on Carnival genuinely impress many passengers!

Unlike some other cruise lines, where everything seems to be turning into an extra charge, Carnival offered plenty of delicious dining choices included in my fare.

One of the most mentioned places? Obviously Guy’s Burger Joint!

Those hand-cut fries and perfectly grilled burgers are truly addictive. The BlueIguana Cantina breakfast burritos are loved as well!

The Entertainment Options

As I was saying earlier, if you’re looking for non-stop fun, Carnival absolutely delivers.

The Playlist Productions shows featured impressive singing and dancing that rivaled what you can see on much pricier cruise lines.

People also love to laugh at the comedy club performances. They usually have both family-friendly and adults-only shows.

The Food’s Quality Can Be Slightly Better

While I praised the complimentary dining options earlier, some passengers believe that the overall food quality on Carnival is good, but rarely spectacular.

The main dining room meals and the buffet offerings are plentiful and tasty, but it’s not often that a dish truly blows you away.

We also have to admit that, for the price you pay, you can’t really expect premium or fancy ingredients.

I’m just saying, if you’re a fan of gourmet or high-end cuisine, you might end up a bit disappointed.

Rollercoaster at Sea? Yes, Please!

Let’s also take a moment to appreciate BOLT, the first-ever roller coaster at sea, only available on Carnival cruises!

I love how the experience combines the adrenaline rush of a coaster with breathtaking panoramic ocean views. You simply can’t find that anywhere else.

It does cost extra, and it’s a bit on the expensive side ($15 per ride), but in my opinion, it’s worth it. It’s a very unique experience.

Some Areas Can Get Too Crowded

The affordability that makes Carnival attractive also leads to one of its biggest drawbacks: the crowds.

At times, walking around the ship can feel like being in a shopping mall, especially when the ship is at full capacity.

Finding a lounge chair by the pool could be difficult, unless you’re willing to participate in the early morning “chair game” where passengers reserve spots with towels. Luckily, you can use my tricks to beat chair hogs on cruise ships.

Some people also mentioned waiting 10 minutes for an elevator during peak times and struggling to find seating in the buffet during the breakfast rush.

I should also add that this is not just a Carnival problem; it happens on many cruise ships, especially the larger ones of all cruise lines (except the luxury ones).

There’s Always Something to Do

On some cruise ships, there may be moments of downtime. It has often happened to me on board, especially during those slower parts of the day when there’s not much happening.

Well, it doesn’t seem to be a common occurrence on Carnival. People feel like there was always something to do on board or some way to have fun.

If you enjoy more active, lively vacations, it’s definitely the right choice.

The Cabin Are Lovely

With a great selection of cabins and clever storage options, many people loved their cabins on Carnival ships.

Different passengers mentioned that unpacking was a breeze because there was ample closet space and plenty of drawers.

Just make sure you don’t pick the cabins to avoid on every carnival ship.

All that aside, many passengers can’t wait to get back on another Carnival cruise. In the meantime, check the big changes they have coming and the new ships arriving soon.
